Never Finished by David Goggins

I first read this book back in Feb 2023 when training to run the 4x4x48. We ran through an insane blizzard and put another cookie in the cookie jar. :) Updating this post now makes me realize I may need to run this again this coming February.

Following is my original article from Feb 24, '23.

    ---- Original Post ----------

This has been my past few weeks: 1. Crush a killer workout. 2. Read Goggins' book. 3. Realize what a wimp I’m being. 4. Repeat step #1.

Goggins sets a high bar when it comes to motivation. This is in my buildup to my 4x4x48 which starts next Friday. I’m dedicating this race to JumpStart Charities to help kids in sports.

Goggins’ latest book, "Never Finished" follows his personal journey of self-improvement and provides practical advice to help readers push past their own limitations and achieve their goals. This book picks up where his first one left off.

Some of the key takeaways from the book include:

  • Building mental toughness: Goggins emphasizes the importance of cultivating mental resilience and perseverance to overcome challenges and push through adversity.
  • Embracing discomfort: true growth and progress come from stepping outside of our comfort zones and embracing discomfort.
  • Continuous self-improvement: one should adopt a growth mindset and commit to a lifelong journey of self-improvement.
  • Building resilience: Goggins provides strategies for building resilience, such as practicing gratitude, developing a support network, and learning to let go of things outside of our control.

Throughout the book, Goggins' personal stories of overcoming adversity and practical advice for building mental toughness and resilience are truly inspiring.

A few quotes:

  • "The only way to become the best version of yourself is to constantly push yourself beyond what you think your limits are."
  • "Success isn't a goal, it's a never-ending journey of growth and self-improvement."
  • "Pain is a necessary part of growth. Without it, we'd never learn, never improve, never become who we're meant to be."
  • "The mind is the most powerful tool you have. It can be your greatest ally or your worst enemy. The choice is yours."
